Perfectionism and control
Many articles are written about perfectionism and control. One newspaper stated ‘perfectionism, a major disease for a new generation’. A large report (2016) showed that people between 20 and 50 spend an average of 51 hours on ‘compulsory’ activities, such as work, education and care. Even in their free time, the report showed, many were living a busy and rushed life. More and more I realise how much the increased speed of live and our response to it (often wanting to control it) can take us hostage. In my job as life coaching as well as in my Mindfulness meditation trainings it is often is a key element to tackle.
Allowing yourself to be imperfect
The reason why most people strive for control and perfection is fear. Our fear of rejection, loosing out or not feeling worthy, be it in our jobs or private lives. Our response is often trying to control as much as possible and spends a lot of time and energy in details. Although understandable, it is counter productive and you become slave to your emotion(s). Moreover you are more likely to fail work-deadlines, get more stressed and be less present with colleagues and/or friends.
Fortunately, scientists have shown that our brain is much more changable than we previously thought. Mindfulness teaches you (your brain) to be more in this moment, to let go of difficult situations, to judge less harshly about yourself and more from love and instead of fear. Therefore I have developed a 3-week mindfulness in-depth course to address the fear of perfectionism.
Free introductory meeting
In a free introductory meeting, it becomes clear which trajectory suits you best. In some situations life coaching is advisable, for another the 8-week mindfulness training and for someone with more meditation (mindfulness) experience the best choice is probably an in-depth training. Sometimes a therapist or a specific retreat, outside of Beyond Mindfulness is better suited and hence will be advised.
Mindfulness Tips and Exercises – make a start now
This mini-workbook stimulates you to take the first steps in the world of mindfulness and self-compassion and helps you to bring it in to practice.
I combine life coaching with meditation (mindfulness) practices. My way of coaching is characterized by a pragmatic and solution-oriented approach. In my method I will also make use of Transformational Presence, nonviolent communication, The Work of Byron Katie and Voice Dialogue.
My personal mission is to facilitate you in an unbiased way in your own process. I do this by giving back what I see and hear, by asking questions and questioning when necessary. Equality and non-judgment are very important to me. This is directly integrated in the way I work.
Probably the most important step for lasting happiness is completely letting go of the identification with thoughts and feelings and to investigate where the core of the mind lies. Coaching is a effective way to guide you in this sometimes confusing path.
With Beyond Mindfulness I aim to make some of the wisdom of the traditional movements (i.e. Buddhism) accessible to a larger group, in order to let people experience long-term inner peace, joy and happiness. In my personal quest, Due to my curious and searching nature, I have walked various paths. I studied in Wales, I lived and worked in Tanzania and worked both in business and the mental health.
I have the ambition to make a genuine contribution so that people can act less from fear and more from love and a connection to life. With my experiences as a meditation practitioner and as a professional trainer-coach I can offer an unique combination of activities.
